Central Oregon Road Construction
UPDATE: Week of June 5
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is continuing to invest in Oregon’s future with roadway improvement projects throughout Oregon’s central region (ODOT Region 4). ODOT is committed to providing safe, efficient transportations systems. The following projects reflect ODOT’s commitment to make improvements as traffic numbers rise and to make the roadways safer and more efficient for drivers:

CROOK COUNTY
OR 126 (Ochoco Highway), MP 17.9, Prineville
Traffic has been switched to the construction configuration. Crews are excavating and preparing for bridge construction. Minimal traffic delays possible.
The speed limit is 35 miles-per-hour through the work zone and is strictly enforced. Fines double in work zones.

DESCHUTES COUNTY
ODOT crews will be striping Central Oregon highways throughout the week. No delays expected with this mobile operation, but motorists are asked to slow down and use caution when they come upon workers.
OR 126 (McKenzie Highway), MP 93-97, junction of US 20
This project is complete, though workers may be working on the shoulder. No delays.
OR 126 (McKenzie Highway), MP 111, Redmond
Highland Avenue is one way eastbound and Glacier Avenue is one way westbound. Ninth Street is one way northbound and 11th Street is one way southbound, between Highland and Forest avenues.
Ninth Street/Veterans Way is now one-way northbound from Indian to Forest avenues. Crews continue earthwork on Veterans Way, between Indian and Highland Avenue. Traffic is traveling on the west side of the road.
Traffic has been shifted to the north side of Highland Avenue, and crews are working to reconstruct the south side. Expect intermittent, minor delays through the work area. Flaggers may be controlling motorist movements.
Sod has been placed in Sam Johnson Park.

US 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 113.9, north of Terrebonne
This project was completed on May 26
This bridge is located about one mile north of Terrebonne on US 97 at milepost 113.9. During the first phase of construction, crews will construct a new, two-lane bridge with 10-foot shoulders to the west of the existing bridge.
Negus Way, Redmond
Bridge work continues at Negus Way, from North Canal Boulevard to the east side of the railroad tracks. Crews are constructing retaining walls and bridge supports. No delays expected, but motorists are asked to be cautious of trucks and equipment in the area.
Negus Way is closed between North Canal Boulevard and NE 5th St.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around the closure area, including the usage of the newly completed NE Ninth Street extension location between Negus Avenue and Hemlock Avenue.
US 20 (Central Oregon Highway), MP .59-1.11, Greenwood Avenue, Bend
Crews may be place permanent striping on US 20 (Greenwood Avenue) toward the end of the week. Work will take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will include single lane closures. Motorist movements will be controlled by flaggers. The work will start near 11 th Street and move west toward Third Street. Expect minor delays.
US 20 (McKenzie-Bend Highway), MP 14.95-18, north of Bend
Crews may place permanent striping on US 20 from north of Bend to Tumalo toward the end of next week. Work will take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will involve single-lane closures. Flaggers will control motorist movements. Expect minor delays.
US 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 152-154, at South Century Drive, near Sunriver
Crews will continue earthwork activities No delays expected. The speed through the work zone is 45 miles-per-hour and strictly enforced.
A full diamond interchange will be built to improve safety and operations at the existing intersection and to accommodate an increase in projected traffic. The interchange will consist of two-lane bridges for both north- and southbound traffic on US 97. South Century Drive will go under the two bridges, which are separated by a 120-foot vegetative median.

JEFFERSON COUNTY
US 26 (Warm Springs Highway), MP 116.36 – 116.80, West of Madras
Wildish Standard Paving Company is working to replace the existing, three lane Burlington Northern Santa Fe Rail Road Bridge, west of Madras, with a new, wider, three-lane Bridge.
Work on this project was completed on May 25.
US 97 (Dalles—California Highway), MP 97.13, south of Madras
Crews are working to install a Variable Message Sign (VMS) on US 97 at the south end of Madras. The sign will be visible to northbound motorists. Crews are working on the shoulder, with no expected delays to traffic.
KLAMATH COUNTY
Tingley Lane (Midland Highway), MP 1.34, Klamath Falls
Cleanup and sign installation work continues at the Tingley Lane Bridge over the Lost River diversion canal. Intermittent, minor delays possible.
Excavation and paving work continues at the Tingley Lane Bridge over the Lost River diversion canal. Traffic is being regulated by flaggers and pilot cars. Expect delays and be aware of loose gravel.
The contractor for the Oregon Department of Transportation will replace the current aging, wood structure with a concrete bridge. The bridge was closed in summer 2004 after damage was discovered in the bridge deck. It was opened later that year, but restricted to one lane, with a stop sign at each end. The new structure will be a two-span concrete slap bridge, 36 feet wide and 125 feet long. It will be able to handle modern-day loads and truck traffic.
OR 66 (Greensprings Highway) MP 43.48-44.08, west of Klamath Falls
Crews are working on the Spencer Bridge over the Klamath River. No delays anticipated.
US 97 (Dalles—California Highway), MP 214.11, south of OR 138 Junction
Crews are working to install a Variable Message Sign (VMS) on US 97 at the south of the junction with OR 138 (North Umpqua Highway). The sign will be visible to northbound motorists. Crews are working on the shoulder, with no expected delays to traffic.
US 97 (The Dalles-California Highway) MP 241, Spring Creek Hill
Excavation activities have resumed. Traffic regulated by flaggers. Expect delays.

Crews from Hamilton Construction Company are performing cleanup work at the US 97 Bridge over Greensprings Drive. Crews may be striping this week. Expect minor delays.

LAKE COUNTY
OR 31 (Fremont Highway) MP 46.6-46.9, one mile west of Silver Lake
Crews are working to replace the narrow, wood bridge with a new concrete structure. Crews have installed detection loops for the temporary signal.
On Monday, June 5, crews will install signal poles and perform electrical work. Expect delays of five to 10 minutes. During the rest of the week, expect five to 10-minute delays while crews perform earthwork activities. Motorist movements will be controlled by flaggers. Work will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
OR 140 (Warner Highway) MP 17.39 – 18.50, US 395 (Freemont Highway) MP 128.57 – 142.64
Crews are beginning work again on OR 140 from mile pint 17.39 to 18.50. Contractor crews will be performing construction surveying and general site excavation and embankment work. Crews are working on building the temporary detour structure. Expect minor delays during blasting work.
This modernization project will realign and reconstruct Highway 140 to eliminate four curves, install safety features and replace the Parsnip Creek Bridge (MP 18.2) with a box culvert on the Warner Highway. Along, US 395, contractor crews will add two to three inches of new pavement on the Freemont Highway, north of Lakeview. This paving project will improve the aging highway surface in the area and includes upgrades to guardrail and constructing new mailbox turnouts. The project is anticipated to be finished in summer 2006.
