US 20: West Sisters Passing Lanes
US 20 Suttle Lake Passing Lanes
US 20 Suttle Lake Passing Lanes
Project Budget:
$2.8 million

Proposed Project Schedule:
Begin final design: November 2005
Bid/Let date: September 2006
Construction start: Summer 2007

Project Location:
US 20 between mile points 95.86 (east/south of Suttle Lake) and 97.47 (west/north of Sisters) in Deschutes County

Project Description:
Currently, there are few passing opportunities available between Suttle Lake and Sisters. In places where the highway is striped to allow passing, opposing volumes are too high and drivers cannot pass. Drivers often attempt to pass, even if the stripping does not allow. The project consists of widening the highway equally on both sides, between MP 96.31 to 97.47, to provide two additional 12-foot wide passing lanes (one in each direction of travel). Additionally, a westbound left turn refuge will be constructed from MP 95.86 to 96.31 for Cold Springs Cutoff Road.
