UKIAH, Ore. — Drivers on U.S. 395 south of Ukiah should expect daytime flagging and up to 20-minute delays from Oct. 19 to Nov. 13. Work crews are scheduled to perform earthwork and paving at Camas Creek Bridge at milepost 60.9-B and at N. Fork John Day River (Dale) Bridge at milepost 63.8-B.
Contractors for the Oregon Department of Transportation will work weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Flaggers will direct alternating one-way traffic during the earthwork and paving. Temporary traffic signals are currently being used to direct single lane travel through the work zones and these will remain in place until the bridge work is completed in 2011.
Camas Creek Bridge, built in 1932, is located 10 miles south of Ukiah. The $6.8 million, three-stage replacement will be completed in the spring 2011.
N. Fork John Day River (Dale) Bridge, also built in 1932, is located at the border of Umatilla and Grant counties. The $7.4 million, three-stage replacement will be completed in the fall 2011.
This work is part of the ODOT’s McKay Creek to Silvies Slough Project, which will ensure continued safety and mobility along the Highway 395 corridor. Wildish Standard Paving Co., based in Eugene, Ore., is the lead contractor. Construction will be finished by fall 2011.
The bridge replacements and repairs are part of the Oregon Department of Transportation's 10-year, $3 billion Oregon Transportation Investment Act program. OTIA funds will repair or replace hundreds of bridges, pave and maintain city and county roads, improve and expand interchanges, add new capacity to Oregon's highway system, and remove freight bottlenecks statewide. Based on 2008 dollars, about 14 family-wage jobs are sustained for every $1 million spent on transportation construction in Oregon. Each year during the remainder of the OTIA program, we estimate that construction projects will sustain an average of 4,100 family-wage jobs.
