Kimberly Bridge
Project Location
  • The Kimberly Bridge is located in Grant County along Oregon Highway 19 (mile point 105.6) near the town of Kimberly. The bridge spans the North Fork John Day River.

Project Purpose
  • This 386-foot-long bridge, built circa 1938, includes timber approach spans that are showing signs of deterioration. The concrete decking is showing signs of cracking and the deck drains are plugged.
  • The existing bridge does not have end panels and the railings are nonstandard.
  • Because of these and other issues, repair needs are a high priority.
  • Repairs to this structure are required to ensure the prolonged safety and efficiency of this highway route.

Construction Overview
  • Survey and other preconstruction activities took place in 2006.
  • Repairs will be constructed in 2007.
  • Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction to allow workers to complete repairs.
  • Traffic delays of up to twenty minutes and reduced speeds can be expected at this project site, plus a full bridge closure is scheduled from June 2 to June 20, 2007. During this time traffic will be detoured between Kimberly and Mt. Vernon on Oregon Route 402 and U.S. Highway 395.
  • This project is combined with the Monument Bridge replacement work.
  • The $5.75 million Monument / Kimberly Bridge Project was awarded to James W. Fowler Co. of Dallas, Oregon.
