Contractors for the Oregon Department of Transportation will close the eastbound Interstate 84 on-ramp at the Rye Valley interchange (Exit 340) on Wednesday, June 18 for bridge replacement work. The ramp will remain closed until October.
Signs will direct motorists on Dixie Creek Road and Rye Valley Lane headed to eastbound I-84 to drive west on I-84 for two miles, take Exit 338 (Lookout Mountain Road), cross under I-84, then proceed eastbound on I-84.
From July to September, crews will occasionally reduce I-84 traffic near the interchange to one lane in each direction. The temporary lane closures will allow workers to repair the freeway bridge over the Burnt River, east of the Exit 340 overpass.
Additional work planned on I-84 and U.S. 30
This work is part of a larger project that includes replacing additional bridges along I-84 and U.S. 30 in Baker County. One bridge is located at the I-84 Lime interchange (Exit 340), and one is located on U.S. 30 between I-84 Exit 342 and Huntington.
- Eastbound I-84 off-ramp at Lime Interchange (Exit 342) – Closed until March 2010 with a detour route in place. Additionally, I-84 traffic near the Lime interchange is reduced to one lane in each direction with each lane restricted to 19 feet in width. These lane restrictions allow workers to remove the I-84 bridge at the Lime interchange and replace it.
- U.S.30 (mile post 4.0) between Huntingtonand I-84 (Exit 342) – While this bridge is being replaced next year, a stoplight will control alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 30. The construction team will shift a 1,500-foot section of U.S. 30 west 10 feet to accommodate bridge work. This work is scheduled from March to October 2009.
The contractor for the $18 million project is Cascade Bridge, LLC of Vancouver, Wash. The project team expects construction to be completed in March 2010.
