feature story Information about Oregon's Outdoor Advertising Sign Program
The Outdoor Advertising Sign Program is a part of the Right of Way section within the Highway Division of the Department of Transportation. We have two full time employees, two limited duration employees, and we call upon staff in the field who, in addition to their usual duties, perform surveillance and site checks for signs along Oregon's highways.

Highway Information
Temporary Signs
This allows a permit exemption for temporary signs. Primarily "temporary" is defined in the law as being up for no more than 60 days in a calendar year, and a size of no more than 12 square feet per side. The Department can write a variance for up to 90 consecutive days, or for 32 square feet. As with all signs, they are not allowed in state highway right of way. There are other criteria. See the link to the statute, rule, and the form to request a variance. The form is one page, there is no fee, and the Department typically can provide the answer within 1-3 business days. Contact our office with any questions, or to submit a variance request.
Video Log
Road
This link will give you access to Oregon Department of Transportation video log of state highways. From your desk you can drive the highway to check potential sign sites or identify a location to report a problem. Contact our staff with the exact location on the video log and we can answer your questions as we view from our office the same thing you are viewing.
