| Functional Assessments |

Wetland functional assessments are required by both the Oregon Department of State Lands (DSL) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) when projects will result in permanent impacts to wetlands.
ODOT requires the use of the Oregon Hydro-geomorphic Method (HGM). HGM Guidebooks for the Willamette Valley and Tidal Areas must be ordered from the DSL. In support of the HGM, ODOT has developed an electronic version of the HGM Judgmental Method.
The Wetland Functional Assessment Guidance Document provides additional information and hints for writing good functional assessments.
Of important note are the following:
| |
 |
Functional assessments should not be submitted with wetland delineations. |
| |
 |
Functional assessments must include an evaluation of educational and recreational uses. |
| |
 |
Functional assessments should be completed for the entire wetland, but impact assessments should only address those functions affected by the project. |
