With its second release, Ohio DOT Best Practices: Culvert Replacement, viewers will join a maintenance crew in southern Ohio as they replace a large corrugated metal pipe with a plastic pipe.  The video begins with a description of the necessary planning and preparation including the coordination with other sections of the department.  The viewer is then taken to the site where video describes the pavement cutting, excavation and removal of the old culvert and the grade setting, installation, compaction and paving elements that are all part of a successful culvert replacement. Despite years of training on Hazard Communication employees often ignore the hazards of chemicals in the workplace. This new video program takes a fresh approach to this topic and gives practical information to your employees on the use of chemicals to answer the following four questions:  1. What am I working with? 2. Can it hurt me? 3. How do I protect myself? 4. What do I do if something goes wrong?  The program also covers new information on the new Global Harmonization Labeling System. (13 minutes)

  

The Basics of Pre-Trip Inspection for Trucks and Trailers

This video was developed by ODOT Photo-Video Services for the T2 Center.  Jim Espenel, a former ODOT Maintenance Section employee and current T2 Center trainer walks the viewer through a commercial truck and trailer pre-trip inspection that is required by law.  An in-depth review of a complete inspection is presented that begins with the required inspection report and proceeds to an inspection of the lights, engine compartment and then a full walk around of the truck and trailer. (46 minutes)
 
Pre-Trip Equipment Tie-Down Basics for Safe Transport

This video was developed by ODOT Photo-Video Services for the T2 Center.  The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has developed cargo securement rules for differing types of cargo.  Jim Espenel, a former ODOT Maintenance employee and current T2 Center trainer walks the viewer through minimum tie-down requirements for hauled equipment that exceeds 10,000 pounds.  Included is a summary of the three components of all tie-down system: anchor points, connectors and tensioners. Of all the vehicles found in construction, maintenance, and public works, the dump truck is without question the most versatile.  In addition to its familiar duties of carrying, dumping, and spreading of loads, this highly versatile equipment can be outfitted with a wide array of attachments to make it, without question, the workhouse of the job site.  Topics covered in this program include:  basic operation, equipment controls, other tasks they can perform and the various attachments required, towing heavy loads and trailers.
