Go Oregon! projects at the Oregon Department of Transportation are mostly complete. From new fences to new roofs, from making bathrooms ADA compliant to replacing broken windows with energy efficient ones, state-owned facilities around the state got much-needed improvements in this program. Approved by Governor Kulongoski and the 2009 Oregon Legislature, the $175 million Go Oregon! program has sent work to hundreds of businesses and kept thousands of Oregonians working.
ODOT's progress as of December 22, 2009:
- Ninety-five projects are complete.
- For projects complete or partially complete, ODOT has paid out $2,831,404.
- Three projects on the original list were cancelled because repairs needed were beyond what the legislature ordered.
- Two projects that were on hold are now moving forward (decommissioning of two rest areas). With winter weather conditions now upon us, these projects are scheduled for completion in spring 2010.
- One project needed to be re-bid and that contract is now signed and materials or on order. It should be completed by early 2010.
One of the more impressive accomplishments in ODOT's portion of the Go Oregon! program is the involvement of small businesses. Seventy-one contracts and sub-contracts valued at $1,523,973 were awarded to emerging small, women-owned, minority-owned, and disadvantaged businesses. Five were owned by women, nine by minorities, and five were certified as disadvantaged business enterprises.
ODOT projects in the program ranged from making facilities ADA compliant to paving worn parking lots, from replacing roofs on maintenance sheds to making energy efficient upgrades. In total, the Go Oregon! program provided $175 million to preserve and repair state-owned facilities.
