SALEM - In celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 27-May 3) and National Nursing Home Week (May 11-17), the Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs will honor its volunteers at the Oregon Veterans' Home in The Dalles.

More than 100 people volunteer at the Veterans' Home, which is a skilled nursing facility for veterans and their spouses. "Volunteers do everything from play the piano and shop for residents to take residents on scenic rides and provide church services," according to Linda Adams, Home Admissions and Liaison Officer. "Volunteers are an integral part of our community at the Home," she said.

Volunteers will be receiving an invitation in the coming days to a celebration in their honor at the Home where they will receive recognition and a gift on May 16.

"We want our volunteers to know how important they are to us," said Jim Willis, Director of the Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs. "Volunteers do so much to help us care for our veterans so we want to show a little care for them as well," he said.
