2008-09 Veterans Task Force | Reintegration Task Force | Transportation Task Force | Female Veteran Task Force
In 2008, Governor Theodore Kulongoski commissioned the Governor’s Task Force on Veterans’ Services. The mission of the Task Force was to review all veteran-related laws, policies and programs and determine if there were gaps in service delivery to veterans.
The Task Force reviewed veteran benefits, health care, employment, education, housing/homelessness, transportation, families, women veterans and retirement. In the course of this review, the Task Force visited 24 Oregon communities and held town hall meetings to hear first-hand from veterans throughout Oregon.
In its final report submitted in December 2008, the Task Force made 39 recommendations, many of which have either become law or are being worked in Congress and by the Oregon Legislature.
In 2009, the Oregon Legislature created three new Task Forces based on recommendations from the Governor's Task Force on Veterans' Affairs; Legislative Task Force on Reintegration, Legislative Task Force on Veteran Trasportation and the Legislative Task Force on Women Veteran Health Care.
