Charitable Check-off Helps Veterans
Wintertime in Oregon means many things to different people. For most, thoughts of Christmas, New Year, family and friends come to mind. There is something else very important this time of year…tax time.

This is the time we begin collecting receipts, filing papers and preparing for that inevitable April 15th tax deadline. With the tax season comes an important opportunity to improve the lives of those who reside at the Oregon Veterans’ Home.

Located in The Dalles, the Oregon Veterans’ Home is Oregon’s only state-run veterans home. As the Home receives no state tax dollars from the General Fund, it relies on donations like those from the Charitable Checkoff program to help retain affordability and enhance residents’ quality of life.

What is Charitable Checkoff?

Oregon Veterans' Home signThrough Oregon’s Charitable Checkoff campaign, individual taxpayers have an opportunity to donate a portion of their state income tax refund to the Oregon Veterans’ Home in an effort to offset some of the costs of caring for these honorable people.

Please take the time while filing your personal state income tax this year to include the code for the Oregon Veterans Home on the Charitable Checkoff portion of your tax form. If tax professionals prepare your Oregon tax forms, tell them that you would like a portion of your refund to go to the Oregon Veterans’ Home.

The Oregon Department of Revenue will send your donation straight to the Oregon Veterans’ Home Trust Fund where it will be used to directly enhance the lives of the American heroes who reside at the Home and to maintain the facility.

How do I donate?

In order to donate a portion of your refund to the Veterans’ Home, simply locate the “other charity” option of your tax form (Long form, line 69 and Short form, line 39). Then enter code # 12 for the Veterans’ Home.

That’s it! You’re done. The Oregon Department of Revenue takes care of the rest.

When you give to the Oregon Veterans’ Home, you are saying “Thank You” to these veterans – who gave so much for all of us.  The Oregon Veterans’ Home is truly “the place where honor lives.”

If you have any questions about the Charitable Checkoff campaign, you can call the Oregon Department of Revenue at 503-378-4988 or the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs at 503-373-2385.
