Updated 12-21-11
The Health Services Commission approved the placement of new CPT and HCPCS for the April 1, 2012 Prioritized List of Health Services at their December 8, 2011 meeting as indicated in the documents linked below. The first document details those CPT codes involving services other genetic testing, along with 11 new HCPCS codes being placed on the list. In addition to codes being placed on the Prioritized List, the Commission is recommending that DMAP designate certain codes as diagnostic, ancillary or excluded. The second document details the Commission’s recommendations on whether the ~100 new genetic testing CPT codes be covered as a diagnostic service according to the Commission’s Non-Prenatal Genetic Testing Algorithm (see third link), be covered but limited according to a guideline (see also third link), or be excluded as the test does not meet criteria for coverage under the algorithm. While these changes will not officially become a part of the Prioritized List until April 1, 2012, these new codes are available for billing purposes as of January 1, 2012. By providing the Commission’s intent for the placement plans and providers will know what the coverage policy will be according the Prioritized List
