Oregon State Hospital has a great opportunity for a uniquely qualified individual who can seamlessly step in and lead ongoing modernization inside and outside the hospital system.

The job of Superintendent requires a leader and experienced professional who can plan, develop and direct clinical inpatient programs at the Salem and Portland campuses.

In 2007, the Oregon Legislature with full support from Governor Ted Kulongoski and leaders of the Oregon Department of Human services expressed its support for the construction of two new state-operated psychiatric treatment facilities. Construction on the 620-bed facility in Salem is under way with the first beds scheduled to open in December 2010. The second facility is located in Junction City just north of Eugene.Mt. Hood

In addition to dedicating millions of dollars to build two new facilities, the Legislature has also approved funding to hire more than 500 additional staff including doctors, nurses and mental health therapists. The state is fully committed to developing the best state hospital system possible.

state capitolThe new building and additional staff will relieve many of our current issues including overcrowding and worn-out physical facilities but the real opportunity is in improving patient care. The first phase of the new hospital will be ready for patients in December 2010. This requires a new approach to the emotional, mental and physical needs of our patients.

The hospital is currently in the process of centralizing treatment and recovery services in a treatment mall. The changes in services will be complemented by a new electronic behavioral health record system.

Meanwhile, Oregon is aggressively moving forward with statewide health reform which creates a fully integrated health care delivery system. This effort in conjunction with federal health reform will eventually bring health care coverage, including mental health and addiction services, to all Oregonians.
