OHCS Joins Forces with Federal Agencies in Push to Reduce Burden on Affordable Housing Developers
November 8, 2011 (Salem) - On November 7, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Northwest Regional Administrator, Mary McBride, United States Department of Rural Development State Director, Vicki Walker, and Oregon Housing and Community Services Director, Margaret Van Vliet, announced an interagency agreement to reduce duplicate physical inspections of local subsidized affordable housing, allowing developers and owners to focus on delivering more housing and resources to those in need.
Awards honor affordable housing developers and community-based organizations

Oregon Homeless Population Increases Again 
May 24, 2011 (Salem) - Homelessness in Oregon has continued to increase over the past two years, according to Oregon's January 2011 Point-in-Time count. Unemployment is the chief cause for homelessness, followed closely by underemployment, or families'' inability to afford rent, which continues to be out of reach for too many working Oregonians.
Oregon receives new Continnum of Care funds to prevent and end homeless
May 16, 2011 (Salem) - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced last week the awarding of $216 million in new Continuum of Care funding to help states combat homelessness. HUD allocated funds to counties throughout the state to help fund programs to prevent and end homelessness and provide supportive services to clients. Some funds will be used for programs overseen by Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS). In total, Oregon received $1.2 million.

State Housing Council Approves Funding for Farmworker Housing in Hood River
April 20, 2011 (Salem) - The Oregon State Housing Council approved funding for a Hood River, Ore. farmworker housing project on Friday.
Oregon Mortgage Assistance Program Begins Making Payments
April 18, 2011 (Salem) - OHCS has begun making mortgage payments on behalf of distressed homeowners through the Oregon Homeownership Stabilization Initiative's (OHSI) Mortgage Payment Assistance (MPA) program. These payments will help struggling Oregonians avoid foreclosure while they work to regain jobs and income.
2011 IDA Awards Announced

Oregon Leaps Forward in Creating Homelessness Prevention Plans
Feb. 22, 2011, Salem - Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS), on the recommendation of the Ending Homelessness Advisory Council (EHAC), has contracted with the Corporation of Supportive Housing (CSH) to provide technical assistance to 18 counties in Oregon for the development of local 10-year plans to end homelessness.
