OHLA Asks Consumers to Think "Piercing Thoughts" about Health and Safety

With the popularity of tattoos and body piercings continuing, the Oregon Health Licensing Agency (OHLA) wants Oregon consumers to be thoughtful before taking the tattoo or piercing plunge.
Piercing Thoughts, a public education campaign focused on tattoo and piercing safety and health, asks consumers to “Think Before You Ink” and “Be Aware…of Aftercare.”
Two brochures have been produced, Piercing & Tattoo Safety and Piercing & Tattoo Aftercare.  Aftercare is the steps consumers need to take to prevent infection and assist their new body art in the healing process.

Aftercare Information

Body piercers and tattoo artists are required to provide aftercare instructions after they perform body piercing or tattoo services.  However, there are no specific requirements regarding the content of aftercare instructions.
OHLA makes recommendations regarding aftercare instructions and also provides links to online resources to provide practitioners and the public with access to health and safety information.
