Laws & Rules for Licensed Dietitans
Authorizing Statutes & Rules
Statutes are laws enacted, and may only be changed, by the Legislature. The Legislature changed the Board of Licensed Dietitians statutes with Senate Bill 939. The Board has responsibility for implementing and administering one chapter of the Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS): (see disclaimer) ORS Chapter 691 (691-405-691.955). Click here to access ORS 691.

Rules are written and adopted by the Board. Rules support the statute: implement its provisions, interpret content, define terms, or provide more detailed procedures or requirements. The Board’s rules are found in Oregon Administrative Rules Chapter 834. Click here to access OAR 834.

In addition to Chapter 691, ORS 676.160, Processing of Complaints against Health Professionals is a related law of interest. Click here to access ORS 676.160.

Upon application acceptance for licensure, an individual becomes subject to the authority of the Oregon Board of Licensed Dietitians and remains subject to that authority while licensed in this state. All licensees are encouraged to thoroughly familiarize themselves with these laws and regulations. As a professional, you are required to know and comply with the law and these rules.

Temporary Administrative Rules
The Oregon Health Licensing Agency (Agency) filed temporary administrative rules with the Secretary of State Office on October 1, 2011, to align the Agency and the Board of Licensed Dietitians (Board) with Senate Bill 939 regarding moving from two-year to one-year licensure.

Temporary administrative rules will expire on March 28, 2012.

The Board has approved an administrative rulemaking schedule to begin the process for proposed administrative rules. This will begin the process of making the temporary administrative rules permanent.
