Board Member Biography
Jill Calamar
Calamar
Jill Calamar, R.D., L.D., C.D.E. has been Lead Clinical Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass since 1996.  She retired in September 2012 but remains active in the field of nutrition.  Previously she worked in a similar capacity at neighboring Josephine Memorial Hospital and concurrently as a consultant to local heath care facilities.
 
In addition to serving as a preceptor to the diabetes and outpatient nutrition rotations for the Oregon Health Sciences University dietetic internship program since 2000, Ms. Calamar has been a health and nutrition instructor at the YMCA, a guest nutrition instructor at local high schools and a junior college, and done nutrition consulting for various local agencies.
 
She has served as a board member for local chapters of the American Heart Association, Lovejoy Hospice, Jerry Acklen Diabetes Association, the Asante Diabetes Advisory Board and the Oregon Health Management Community Education Board.  Ms. Calamar graduated with a bachelor's of science in Dietetics and Food Administration from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA and completed a graduate internship program at the University of Minnesota.
 
"I am passionate about nutrition, medical nutrition therapy and the role of registered and licensed dietitians as food and nutrition experts and their expertise in translating the science of nutrition into solutions for healthy living," she says.  "I believe the public and the consumer are entitled to accurate, up-to-date, safe and effective nutrition therapy and services and that licensure is essential to ongoing consumer safety."
