Fifteen Hours Annually
Application for certification renewal should be made in advance of the certification expiration date, which is the last day of the month one year from the date of issuance unless otherwise established when Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) are established for this new regulatory program.

Renewal applications are mailed to certificate holders approximately six weeks prior to certification expiration courtesy of the Oregon Health Licensing Agency (OHLA) and the Sex Offender Treatment Board (SOTB).

Late renewals are subject to a late renewal fee, which will be established during public administrative rulemaking.

Continuing education requirements established in House Bill 3233 (Oregon Laws 2007, Chapter 841), which created the SOTB and regulation of sex offender therapists, are as follows.  To successfully renew, certificate holders must:
  • Be in compliance with all overarching OHLA requirements and those specific to sex offender treatment

  • Have a minimum of 100 hours of clinical experience during the preceding year, 50 of which shall be direct clinical contact with sex offenders

  • Have completed a minimum of 15 hours continuing education in the field of sex offender treatment during the preceding year

  • Satisfy any additional requirements adopted by the SOTB

Approved Courses
Approved continuing education courses, training seminars and self-study materials that may be used to satisfy continuing education requirements for ongoing certification will be established after appointment and confirmation of volunteer citizen members of the SOTB.
