Board Member Biography
Brie Akins
Brie Akins
Ms. Akins has been active in the movement to end domestic and sexual violence since 1998. She has worked as an advocate and educator at both rural and urban community organizations in Washington, Idaho and Oregon, as well as in New Zealand.
From 2005-2009 she worked at the Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Task Force, where she administered rape prevention education funds and provided training and technical assistance on a wide range of topics relating to sexual violence intervention and prevention.  She has also served on the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Funding Advisory Board, Oregon Department of Justice, Crime Victims Services Division, as well as on several work groups for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Rape Prevention and Education Program.
Currently, Ms. Akins is an Instructor at Oregon State University and is the President and Co-Founder of the Oregon Violence Against Women PAC. She received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Sociology from Washington State University and a Master’s of Arts in Sociology from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.
