Salem, OR, February 5, 2009 – The Oregon Health Licensing Agency (OHLA) is open and continues to offer licensing and regulatory services and oversight during an assessment by the state Department of Justice.
"We want to ensure the agency's customers and stakeholders that the agency continues to operate and provide services as it normally would," said Brian DeForest, who is heading up the temporary management team at the agency with two other managers from the state Department of Administrative Services.
OHLA is open regular agency hours and is conducting examinations, processing applications for licensure, inspecting facilities and facilitating board and council meetings and administration, among other agency activities.
The temporary management team from DAS is also conducting a management assessment of OHLA operations.
The two other managers from DAS are Jon DuFrene, manager of the Statewide Financial Services Division, and Cindy Forest, a senior manager from DAS Human Resource Services Division. DeForest is a budget manager from DAS Budget & Management Division.
"Agency staff has been very helpful and are experienced and knowledgeable," said DeForest. "OHLA employees have been a great resource."
The Department of Justice initiated a workplace assessment of the agency in the last week, the nature of which has not been revealed pending the completion of the assessment.
DAS spokesperson Lonn Hoklin said that the assessment may take two to three weeks.
