How Does Oregon Compare?
Introduction
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), using Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS)data from the 35 states that participate in The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP), has developed national benchmarks for the Hospital Quality Indicators reported on this website.  While it would be ideal to show national comparisons for 2004 Oregon data, the most recently available national data is from 2002.

The charts you’ll see here display 2002 comparisons for the U.S., the Western states and Oregon.  As soon as the 2003 national benchmarks are available, these pages will be updated.

NIS 2002 contains all discharge data from 995 hospitals located in 35 States, approximating a 20-percent stratified sample of U.S. community hospitals.
