What is a craniotomy?*

A craniotomy is an operation to open the skull for access to perform surgical repairs on the brain. It may be done to remove a tumor or a blood clot, control a hemorrhage, or repair an aneurysm, among other reasons. Among the most common reasons for performing a craniotomy is to perform surgery on a brain tumor.
