June 26, 2012 9:45–10:00 Gather and coffee 10:00–10:15 Council member and participant introductions and review agenda- All Council members and attendee Decision Item: Approve Meeting Minutes from February 2012 meeting - Rick Boatner 10:15–noon Committee Reports—The Finance, Legislative, Science, Tunicate and Outreach and Education Committees will provide updates on their latest activities and issues they are addressing, including:
- Finance: Fiscal Agent, funding to support Council annual operations, funding for the Invasive Species Control Account, and funding for the OISC Coordinator—next steps will be discussed (Rian Hooff, Chair)
- Legislative: 2013 legislation support/proposed by OISC (Mark Sytsma, Chair)
- Science: Arundo donax issue and the May legislative debrief
- Tunicate: Update on the tunicate survey work and citizen science/outreach (Sam Chan, Chair)
- Outreach and Education: Update on outcomes from last committee meeting (Sam Chan, Chair)
Noon–1:00pm WORKING LUNCH—Council Roundtable Discussion—Roundtable updates from each organization will be given (lunch catered by Great Earth); two short presentations on the feral swine outreach campaign (Lisa) and feral swine management efforts (Rick)—All Council members 1:00pm–5:00pm Feral Swine Field Tour—Council members and interested participants will participate in a field tour to discuss: - the status of feral swine populations and management in the State of Oregon
- the status of the outreach campaign with private landowners
- the status of fundraising for feral swine eradication and managementcooperative efforts with the Oregon Pork Producers
- feral swine rooting in patches of yellow star thistle, contributing to the spread of this noxious weed
6:30pm Dinner—Council members will have dinner at Gino’s Italian Grill. June 27, 2012 7:45–8:00 am Gather and coffee 8:00–8:15 Council Housekeeping—Review the status of the OISC budget and its respective accounts—Rick Boatner 8:15–9:00 Invasive Species and Seaplanes— Alaska, Indiana and Wisconsin have active seaplane invasive species programs, and the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission produced recommendations on seaplane inspection and decontamination for aquatic invasives. Videos online depict how to protect against invasive species. A citizen, Chuck Tucker, has requested the Council consider legislation/action in Oregon to prevent the introduction and/or spread of aquatic invasive species by seaplanes—Glenn Dolphin 9:00–9:30 Managing Biofouling Threats from Coastal Vessel Traffic. The following will be discussed—Rian Hooff:
- status on regulatory development efforts
- Oregon’s level of preparedness for non-conventional biofouling threats
- general marine AIS response planning
9:30–10:00 Aquatic Invasive Species Projects Ongoing in Oregon—A number of aquatic invasive species projects are ongoing in Oregon, including watercraft inspection stations—Glenn Dolphin 10:00–10:15 BREAK 10:15–noon Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)—Bentgrass in Oregon—This is an informational item to discuss the issue of herbicide-resistant bentgrass, Agrostis stolonifera, in eastern Oregon. noon–1:00 Working lunch—EDRR and the Oregon Conservation Strategy: Addressing Invasives Via Oregon’s Ecoregions—A concept will be presented relative to the development of a statewide EDRR network for Oregon based on Oregon’s ecoregions, as described in the Oregon Conservation Strategy—Lisa DeBruyckere 1:00-1:30 Invasive Species Control Account (ISCA)—The Council will address ODA’s recent request to tap into the ISCA to pay for Japanese beetle control in Portland, Oregon 1:30–2:00 Other Council Business— - Next meeting date and location
- Debrief of the May 2012 National Invasive Species Council Advisory Committee meeting in Portland
