Celebrate safe and sober
With prom season underway and graduation around the corner, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission is using the web to help teens celebrate responsibly.

OLCC is asking teens to send in their plans for a responsible prom or graduation night to share with other kids who might be looking for ideas on how to have fun without drinking.

"These are momentous times in their lives," said Rudy Williams, OLCC Deputy Director. "Young people know what other young people like. We want to create a dialogue among teens to share ideas on how to celebrate without being intoxicated and putting themselves in a dangerous situation."

OLCC is also teaming up with the Department of Education to direct high school students to the safe celebration page.

Car crashes are the number one cause of death for teenagers. The number of teen mortalities increases beginning at prom season, lasting through summer vacation.

Anyone interested in sharing his or her safe celebration plans can email Communications Specialist, Joy Evensen at joy.evensen@state.or.us.
