Effective January 1, 2012, prior to using the services of a physician assistant, a supervising physician or primary supervising physician of a supervising physician organization (SPO) must be approved as a supervising physician by the Board. Physicians applying to be a supervising physician must take a course and pass an exam on the supervising physician requirements and responsibilities as part of the application process. Once approved as a supervising physician, a physician may use the services of a physician assistant only after entering into a practice agreement with the physician assistant. The practice agreement must be filed with the Board within 10 days of the physician assistant beginning practice. Use the following form to add a new supervisory relationship: Practice Agreements After a supervisory relationship has been established via a practice agreement, the supervising physician must notify the Board of any changes to the practice agreement within 10 days of the effective date of the change. If a supervising physician and physician assistant team wishes to terminate a supervisory relationship, they must submit notification of this termination to the Board within fifteen days of the termination.
