School children plan during an emergency
Public, private, and parochial schools within the Immediate Response Zone (IRZ) or the Protective Action Zone (PAZ), have developed emergency plans in case of a chemical agent release. Options are to shelter in place (in a specially pressurized room) or relocate students by bus to other schools outside the IRZ or PAZ. Parents should not attempt to pick up their children at school. This could cause traffic and safety problems for children who are being evacuated or sheltered in place. If your school has decided to relocate, students will be transported by school bus to a "host" school outside of the emergency zones. They will be moved safely under constant adult supervision. News and information on the Emergency Alert System will tell you which schools will shelter in place. If an evacuation is ordered, the broadcast will also tell you where you can meet your children when the emergency is over.
