- If you need to take shelter or evacuate, you may have only a few minutes to protect yourself. Take some time to prepare yourself and your loved ones now.
- Choose a room on an upstairs floor, if possible, with the fewest openings to the outside. If appropriate for the number of people in your home/office, select the bathroom.
- Duct tape.
- Towels for under doors
- Pre-cut plastic for windows/vents
- A battery-powered radio
- Snack foods and water (one gallon per person)
- Extra clothing for winter months and items to keep kids occupied
- Store this "kit" in a large plastic bucket in the room you decide to shelter in. You can use the plastic bucket as a toilet, if needed.
