Service Member Legal Services
The Office of the Staff Judge Advocate (OSJA) offers legal assistance services to Oregon National Guard Service members (SM) during Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) Inactive Duty Training (IDT)(i.e., drill weekends).  A legal assistance attorney (LAA) will discuss and assist with the following topics:

1.      Estate planning (wills, powers of attorney);
2.      Servicemember Civil Relief Act (SCRA) protections;
3.      Family support obligation;
4.      FLIPL rebuttal;
5.      Potential Lautenburg-qualifying conviction;
6.      Referred OER / NCOER; and
7.      Memorandum of reprimand.

To schedule a call back from a LAA, SMs may email ng.or.orarng.list.jag-legal-assistance@mail.mil and provide their name, contact information and a brief description of the legal matter.  The LAA will call SMs back during JFHQ IDT in the order the matter was received.

OSJA also assists SMs with estate planning and advises on SCRA protections during scheduled Servicemember Readiness Processing (SRP) events for mobolizing units.

For SMs who are deployed, deploying, or stationed out of state, the Oregon State Bar Military Assistance Panel offers legal services for issues affected by military service at a reduced cost.  Contact OSJA at 503-584-3571, who will provide a military referral number after confirming eligilibility.

For topics or issues not listed, the Oregon State Bar offers a lawyer referral service to the general public at 800-452-7636 or 503-684-3763.  It also offers legal services at a reduced cost to the public through the Modest Means Program, using the same telephone numbers.

For SMs of the Armed Forces' active components or retired SMs, the legal office at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, in Tacoma, WA, offers legal assistance services and may be contacted at 253-477-1873/1875.
