National Guardswoman apparent homicide victim
 
Salem, Ore. - The Oregon National Guard was saddened to learn of the death of Sergeant Dion M. Wilks, 25, of Salem. Wilks was a member of the State Area Command medical section. She was an apparent homicide victim on Saturday night south of Salem on I-5. Sgt. Wilks has served in the Oregon National Guard for 5 ½ years as a medical specialist.
 
Wilks attended her monthly Guard drill at the Salem Armory on Saturday and was socializing in her home with two other members of her unit Saturday evening when they were apparently accosted by her former boyfriend, Manuel Tovar Jr. . Later in the evening, Tovar gained access through a window and beat Specialist John Martin who was staying at the residence in southeast Salem. He then kidnapped Wilks. She was later located on I-5 near Ankeny Hill were she was pronounced dead. Martin was treated at Salem Hospital and released. Tovar, has not been apprehended.
 
The National Guard will release details on funeral arrangements later.
