1249th Engineer Battalion receives mobilization orders
 
Salem, Ore. - The Oregon Military Department received notification of the mobilization of the 1249th Engineer Battalion, Oregon Army National Guard headquartered in Salem, Ore. The battalion was placed on alert status on February 13, 2002. Lt. Col. William Schutz of Salem, is the battalion commander with units located in Dallas, Burns, Bend, Warrenton, Albany and Salem. This presidential callup in support of Operation Enduring Freedom places 446 soldiers on federal active duty effective March 15, 2003. They have been ordered to report to their mobilization station at Fort Lewis, Wash. by March 26, 2003. Their final duty station is unknown at this time.
 
The mission of 1249th Engineer Battalion is that of construction engineers. They are tasked to prepare combat ready engineer forces to provide mobility, countermobility, survivability and general engineering to a heavy division.
 
A mobilization ceremony is in the planning stages and will be announced as soon as details have been finalized.
