National Guard will mobilize 60 soldiers to support Iraq unit

Salem, Ore. – The Oregon National Guard will mobilize more than 60 soldiers in October to support the 2nd Battalion, 162 Infantry operations in Iraq.

Several dozen volunteers from throughout the Oregon Army National Guard will participate in a personnel review the first weekend on October to ensure their deployment readiness. The 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry and the 39th Brigade Combat Team commanding them in Iraq requested the additional support to replace casualties, allow leave for soldiers, and ensure adequate manning for mission requirements.

The soldiers will mobilize on Oct. 17 and go through training at Fort Bliss, Texas, prior to deployment. Their training at Ft. Bliss includes individual skills training, common task training, weapons qualification and cultural awareness training.
