PRESS CONFERENCE: Oregon Army National Guard's 41st Brigade alerted for deployment to Afghanistan

The 41st Brigade Combat Team, headquartered in Tigard, received an Alert Order Oct. 31 for possible deployment in the summer of 2006 to train the Afghanistan National Army.

Colonel Cameron Crawford, deputy brigade commander of the 41st BCT, will hold a press conference at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Tigard Armory located at 6700 Oak St. in Tigard.

Receiving an Alert Order allows a unit to prepare forces, begin coordination, and focus training for deployment. The 41st BCT expects to send nearly 900 soldiers from Oregon to support the mission. Several states will augment the 41st BCT with additional personnel.

The next step in the process is a mobilization order. After the mobilization order is received , the 41st BCT will begin directly training with the other states that are supporting the deployment. The unit anticipates receiving a mobilization order next spring.
