Unexploded Ordnance scheduled for detonation today on Camp Withycombe

Unexploded ordnance is scheduled to be detonated between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., today at Camp Withycombe.

The 37mm projectile, considered by the project UXO team to be possible high explosive, was discovered during an environmental project walk through of the east hillside.

The area is a former range dating back to before 1906 and the site of an environmental project which removed lead bullets from the soil.

"As we continue to clean and inspect this area we anticipate finding old ordnance from the past," said Jim Arnold, Oregon Military Department Environmental Branch, Restoration manager.

Protective works will be utilized by the UXO team to reduce noise levels.

Due to location and item size, the UXO team expects this shot to have less noise than previous events.
