ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Oregon National Guard (ORNG) is constitutionally based in both the Federal and State Constitution and is commanded by The Adjutant General, who is appointed by the Governor. The purpose of the Oregon Military Department (OMD) is to assist and support The Adjutant General in executing his Constitutional duties as Commander of the ORNG. The Adjutant General is statutorily required to command, provide administration, and oversee construction and maintenance of facilities, training camps and areas, and air bases for the Oregon Army and Air National Guard in support of the Governor. The ORNG provides the Governor with a ready force to assist civilian authorities during civil unrest or natural disasters, or responds to the President during national emergencies.
Within this military environment, OMD employees work in a wide range of occupations including armed security, fire fighters, repair/refurbish Department of Defense equipment, support youth activities, operate and maintain over 50 facilities throughout the state, manage major construction projects, and provide expertise in environmental compliance as well as managing the agency’s budget and fiscal resources, providing human resource management and payroll activities for State employees, and soldiers and airmen called for State Active Duty.

GENERAL INFORMATION
- This is a full-time, limited duration position with the Oregon Military Department located in Springfield. Funding is expected through June 30, 2011. In the event permanent funding becomes available the person in this position could potentially become permanent without further competition.
- You do not need to be a member of the Oregon National Guard to apply for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Twelve months of commercial or industrial custodial experience including operating and maintaining electric powered custodial equipment such as floor polishers, floor scrubbers, steam cleaners or shampooers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Empties varied trash receptacles; cleans walls and floors of varied surfaces; cleans windows and mirrors. Fills dispensers, dusts, sweeps and mops floors. Strips and applies floor finish. Vacuums and shampoos carpets. Collects and processes recyclable items.
Changes light bulbs; clears clogged drains and toilets; performs minor maintenance of custodial equipment and building; makes repairs to equipment and furnishings within the scope of ability and does special projects such as painting or hanging blinds and reports other needed repairs for maintenance and safety problems.
Locks and unlocks buildings; makes rounds to ensure building is secure. Checks to ensure systems are operating, reports deficiencies.
Prepares applicable reports and keeps a variety of records using a computer. Responds to e-mail and uses computer for calendar scheduling and requesting leave.
Requisition replacement supplies and materials. Monitors fluid level in portable eyewash station.
Assists in any rental activities as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with the 1988 Drug Free Workplace Act, OMD Drug/Alcohol Testing Policy and applicable collective bargaining.
- Possess a valid state motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Must have knowledge to know when, where and how to properly wear and maintain personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 90lbs.
- Requires travel throughout the Springfield and Eugene region to different armory locations.

Question 1: This position will perform industrial janitorial cleaning tasks. What type of duties have you performed in this area, what was your job title, and how long did you do this work? What tools and equipment have you used?
Question 2: This position will perform minor maintenance and repairs utilizing a variety of hand and power tools. What is your training and experience in doing minor maintenance and repairs? In what positions did you perform this work and what tools and equipment did you use?
Question 3: This position will prepare reports and keep a variety of records using a computer. Explain your knowledge and use of computers. In your answer, discuss the types of computers and software that you have used to keep records.
