FIRE SITUATION UPDATE: Additional soldiers to receive recertification training
 
Portland, Ore.- Army National Guard soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 218th Field Artillery, headquartered in Portland are assembling at the Jackson Armory in Portland. Tomorrow morning they will undergo recertification training from the Oregon Department of Forestry. Upon completion of the training they will travel to the Quartz Fire, join up with other elements of the 41st Separate Infantry Brigade and man the firelines on Saturday morning. 

The 2-218 FA is headquartered in Portland, Ore. with units located in the following cities: Portland, Hood River and Clackamas, Ore. They will train 60 soldiers for recertification.
 
The recertification (refresher course) will include an in-depth review of safety-critical elements including fire orders; communications; lookouts; safety zones; the 18 situations that shout "Watch Out"; and LCES (lookouts, communications, escape routes and safety zones). The course also includes review of fire shelter use and a shelter deployment drill.
 
Fire safety, fire behavior, crew procedures, command structure, standing orders/watch orders, fire fuels, line building and leap frogging will also be included.
