Howitzer Fire planned as part of patriotic event at Portland Speedway
Portland, Ore.-Members of the 2nd Battalion, 218th Field Artillery from Portland will provide a Howitzer gun salute as part of opening ceremonies for the Championship Series at Portland Speedway on Friday, September 14, 2001.

As part of a special salute to members of the military who show their identification, they will be give a reduced admission. Also on hand will be a 25 foot repelling wall, a series of cannon salutes during the opening ceremonies and a color guard provided by the Oregon National Guard.
Members of the community are advised that the loud noises from the blank cannon shells will begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. and will begin with two rotations as part of the opening ceremonies and two rotation to begin the race.
