National Guard assists in Josephine County search and rescue

Grants Pass, Ore. - An Oregon National Guard search and rescue team from Salem was dispatched Tuesday morning to assist the Josephine County sheriff's office in locating a missing Washington man.

Todd Morris, 35, of Centralia, Wash., was working for the US Forest Service doing survey work in the Kalmiopsis wilderness area east of Brookings when he got separated from his father-in-law during a snowstorm on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

The National Guard received the search and rescue request from Oregon Emergency Management, at the request of the Josephine County sheriff's office. The helicopter crew searched the area Tuesday afternoon, and in the evening with night vision equipment in hopes of spotting a campfire.
The helicopter dropped off two members of Josephine County's search and rescue team Tuesday afternoon so they could search the heavily-wooded area on foot.

The National Guard members assisting in the search and rescue mission are Chief Warrant Officers Dan McGarren and Barry Brown.
