Oregon National Guard assists in search for missing snowboarder
Bend, Ore. -Two Oregon Army National Guard helicopters have joined in the search for a missing 23-year-old snowboarder on Mt. Bachelor. A UH-60 Blackhawk began search efforts on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002. Today, an OH-58 joined the search. The OH-58 is equipped with FLIR and night vision systems, while the UH-60 Blackhawk has a hoist. The National Guard's assistance came through Oregon Emergency Management at the request of the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.
Kate Svitek, a Bend resident, was snowboarding on Saturday at Mt. Bachelor with friends when she disappeared.
Searches Saturday evening and all day Sunday turned up nothing.
UH-60 Blackhawk crew is: Capt. Mark Ulvin and Chief Warrant Officer Dennis Cooper, pilots; Sgt. James Tourney, crew chief; Sgt. Pat Casha, flight medic.
OH-58 crew is: Chief Warrant Officers Rod Comstock and Dan McCarron, pilots.
