|Prineville-area road closures during military training
Salem-The Oregon Army National Guard will be conducting their annual training exercises from July 13 through July 27 at the Biak Training Center and adjacent public lands along Millican Road (training area #1).
A potential encounter with military vehicles by joggers, hikers, and civilian vehicles during the training exercises and the events of Sept. 11, 2001, has raised concerns about the safety of the public and military personnel. To limit these potential safety hazards, the roads within training area #1, that are managed by the BLM, will be closed to civilian access from July 19 through July 23, 2002. The Millican Road will be closed just south of Highway 126 and north of Reservoir Road during the military training. Access will be allowed for administrative purposes and to private landowners requiring access to their property.
Military personnel will be responsible for controlling civilian access on BLM roads within the training areas. The Oregon Army National Guard will post signs noting the limits and duration of the closure along public roads that provide access to training areas. The National Guard will establish manned security checkpoints at all main access roads to alert the public of the road closures and the potential safety hazards.
