Army Guard to assist in Medevac operation in Yosemite National Park
Pendleton, Ore. -Responding to a call from the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center in Langley, Virginia, one CH-47 Chinook helicopter from the Oregon Army National Guard departed this morning at approximately 6 a.m. from the Army Aviation Flight Facility in Pendleton, Oregon. They will travel to Bishop, Calif. where they will assist in a high altitude rescue operation on Split Mountain in Yosemite National Park.
A climber who is reported to have injuries including a broken leg is at the 13,000 foot level on Split Mountain.
Oregon is responding to this emergency as California currently does not have aircraft available that can respond to a high altitude rescue operation.
