Mobilization ceremony for 2nd of the 162nd Infantry
Mobilization ceremony for 2nd of the 162nd Infantry to be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at Lane County Fairgrounds.
Salem, Ore. - At 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2003, there will be a mobilization ceremony held for the 2nd of the 162nd Infantry of the Oregon Army National Guard at the Lane County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall, located at 736 W. 13th Street in Eugene. A press room will be set up at the rear of the exhibit hall building just off of Madison Street. Media parking will be provided behind the exhibit hall.
The 162nd Infantry, Oregon Army National Guard, will integrate into the 1st Cavalry, and replace the 4th Infantry Division already serving in Iraq. The Oregon unit will leave the state on Thursday, Oct. 30, from Mahlon Sweet Airport in Eugene, OR, and travel to Ft. Hood, Texas to complete their training, before being forward-deployed to Iraq. Over 700 Oregon soldiers are part of this deployment.
Battalion Commander, Maj. Dan Henrickson, Executive Officer, Maj. Ed Tanguy, unit commanders, and first sergeants will be available for interviews in the press room at 8:45 that morning.
Presiding over the mobilization ceremony will be the honorable Governor Ted Kulongoski, governor of Oregon, Brig. Gen. Raymond C. Byrne, Jr., Interim Adjutant General, and Col. Doug Pritt, 41st Brigade Commander. Family, friends, and the media are encouraged to attend.
