1249th Engineer Battalion mobilization ceremony set for Mar. 24th
Salem, Ore.- Families, friends and members of the media are invited to attend the mobilization ceremony for the 1249th Engineer Battalion, headquartered in Salem, Ore. The battalion has units in Burns, Bend, Dallas, Warrenton and Bravo, Company from Albany which was previously mobilized and is in Ft. Carson,Colo.
Governor Ted Kulongoski, Bill Ward, Military Liaison for Congresswoman Darlene Hooley, Maj. Gen. Alexander Burgin, The Adjutant General and Brig. Gen. Dennis Merrill will preside over the official mobilization ceremony to be held Monday, March 24, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Columbia Hall at the Oregon State Fair Grounds on 17th Street in Salem.
The 1249th Engineer Battalion will then depart for their Mobilization Station at Ft. Lewis, Washington on March 26, 2003. Families and friends will be on hand at the following armories to see them off: Salem AFRC, Bend Armory, Dallas Armory and Rilea Armed Forces Training Site in Warrenton.
The mission of 1249th Engineer Battalion is that of construction engineers. They are tasked to prepare combat ready engineer forces to provide mobility, countermobility, survivability and general engineering to a heavy division.
