Son of Guard soldier Drowns in Santiam River
 
Juston Braith, 14, son of Oregon Army National Guard soldier, Sgt. Eugene Braith drowns in Santiam River in a swimming accident. The accident occurred on Tuesday, June 17 near the end of Bond Road south of Jefferson.
 
Juston was trying to swim across the river when he seemed to tire and panicked. His step- brothers tried to swim out to him, but he had been swept under the water. His body was found at approx. 6:05 by a diver from the Albany Fire Department.
 
Sgt. Braith is currently serving with Bravo Company, 52nd Engineers based out of Salem, Ore. which is currently assisting with the rebuilding in Iraq. His military specialty is that of carpenter/mason. He has been notified of this tragedy and arrangements have been made for his return to Oregon.
