Army National Guard to provide support at B & B Fire
Salem, Ore. - Following the Declaration of Emergency invoked yesterday by Governor Ted Kulongoski,, a request was made to the Oregon Army National Guard to provide three Type I aircraft in support of the B & B Fire in central Oregon.
One UH-60 Blackhawk, one Firehawk and one CH-47 Chinook helicopter along with support personnel will report to the Booth Fire Helibase near Sisters, Ore. today no later than 4 p.m. Support vehicles include three Hemmett Fuelers, two Hemmett cargo trucks and three HMMWV’s with trailers. These 26 soldiers will be on State Active Duty orders for up to 21 days.
The Firehawk and Blackhawk are based at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem, Ore., while the CH-47 Chinook helicopter will be coming from the Army Aviation Support Facility #2 in Pendleton. The Blackhawk will carry a 1,000 gallon water bucket while the Chinook is capable of transporting a 2,000 gal. bucket.
