Guard reviews soldiers for deployment to Iraq
Salem, Ore. – The Oregon National Guard will review the records of more than 100 soldiers Oct. 3 at the Anderson Readiness Center here as part of a process to identify who will provide backfill for the 2nd Battalion of the 162nd Infantry which is on duty in Baghdad, Iraq.
The review, called soldier readiness processing, will determine which soldiers are medically and administratively qualified to support the deployment.
The 2nd Bn. of the 162nd In. and the 39th Brigade Combat Team commanding them in Iraq requested the additional support to replace casualties, allow leave for soldiers, and ensure adequate manning for mission requirements.
The soldiers will mobilize on Oct. 17 and go through training at Fort Bliss, Texas, prior to deployment. Their training at Ft. Bliss includes individual skills training, common task training, weapons qualification and cultural awareness training.
