Oregon National Guard soldiers mobilized to support Operation Iraqi Freedom
Salem, OR - The Joint Force Headquarters of the Oregon National Guard received orders late July 16 to mobilize another Oregon unit to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Lebanon, Ore. unit, F Troop, 82nd Cavalry, will send nearly 100 soldiers to Fort Bliss, Texas where they will join the 29th Infantry Brigade from the Hawaii National Guard for training before they deploy to Iraq.
The mobilization orders have called the soldiers to active duty for a period of not more than 18 months, which will include training at Ft. Bliss and the deployment to Iraq.
There are more than 700 Oregon National Guard soldiers currently serving in Iraq. This deployment, combined with the previously announced deployments of G Troop, 82nd Cavalry and the 3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry will bring the total number of Oregon soldiers serving in Iraq to more than 1,300 by late fall or early winter.
