Mobilization Ceremony for Guard soldiers heading to Iraq
Salem, Ore. - A formal mobilization ceremony is set for Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson Readiness Center, 3225 State St. NE, Salem, Oregon. This ceremony will be for 30 soldiers who will be sent as replacement troops for the 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry currently serving in Iraq.
These replacements will fill vacancies within the battalion caused by injuries stateside and In-Theater and our KIA’s. The integrity of the Battalion has been challenged by these losses and it is a command decision to bring this battalion back up to strength in order to complete their mission.
Staff Sgt. Robert Palen of Tigard, Ore will be in charge of these troops until they arrive in Iraq where they will be disbursed according to need. These soldiers come from the 1st Battalion, 162 Infantry and the 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry. Hometowns are Springfield, McMinnville, Eugene, Oregon City, Hillsboro, Silverton, Corvallis, Sheridan, St. Helens, Portland, Beaverton, Albany, Tigard and Aloha.
Governor Ted Kulongoski, Brig. Gen. Raymond C. Byrne Jr, Acting Adjutant General and Brig. Gen. Douglas A. Pritt, Commander, 41st Brigade Combat Team will be on hand to wish them well on this mobilization.
