|National Guardsman killed in Iraq
Salem, Ore. – A citizen-soldier of the Oregon National Guard was killed in action Sept. 25 when insurgents detonated an improvised explosive device near his convoy in Baghdad, Iraq.
Specialist David Johnson was the gunner in the last vehicle of a supply convoy bound for Taji, Iraq when insurgents detonated the IED. He was traveling in an up-armored high mobility multi-wheeled vehicle, or Humvee when the insurgents attacked.
Spc. Johnson was assigned to the Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry. He was a volunteer from the 218th Field Artillery.
Oregon National Guard officials notified the next of kin, and the family will arrange memorial services.
