Both units faced hostile fire in the form of Improvised Explosive Devices on several occasions. 3rd Bn, 116th Cav.'s area of operations was Forward Operations Base Warrior, north of Kirkuk. G Troop was based in FOB Gainsmills, and discovered several weapon caches, including the largest in their area of operations. At the end of their deployment, the soldiers assisted in security operations during the vote on the Iraqi Constitution.
The units will go through the 5-7 day Demobilization Soldier Readiness Program at Fort Lewis before returning to their home stations. The majority of the soldiers are expected to return to their home stations by mid-November.
All events and times are subject to change based on mission requirements and possible changes to flight itineraries. Updates forthcoming, including names of returning soldiers by region tomorrow.
